about chamonix

Getting there

The mountain resort of Chamonix sits at the foot of the world-famous Mont Blanc and is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the French Alps.

World-renowned as both an extreme winter and summer sports capital, Chamonix is a bustling town with 10,000 permanent residents. One of the most visited and accessible European resorts, it attracts more than 4.6 million visitors per year.

As a destination, it has a reputation for the extreme but it also offers a wide array of sporting and leisure activities for all ages, great restaurants and nightlife, and superb scenery that can be enjoyed at your own pace. Unlike the vast majority of mountain resorts around the world, Chamonix is at full touristic capacity in both the summer and the winter.

Situated in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Chamonix is centrally located only a 1-hour drive from Geneva airport, 2h45m drive from Milan and 3h30 drive from Zurich.

Chamonix is also in very close proximity to the popular ski resorts of Verbier (1-hour drive), Megève (40-minute drive) and Courmayeur (15-minute drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel)
